Most of us prefer the changing of the seasons, so long as its spring and summer. We at Es Mode would like to bring both anticipation and excitement to autumn and winter. There are many exciting things to discover during the colder months, including new grooming routines.  In this article, we will address haircuts and beards. How to support healthy hair, groom your beards and maintain healthy skin.

We will address full body grooming in a different article. Each time I see Tom Selleck flash his abundant chest hairs on the television show, Magnum P.I., I am flabbergasted.

Es Mode was fortunate enough to interview Matt Southerland of the Blind Barber at Barneys New York for this article. Matt is a Master Barber and guru of all men's hairstyles, hair textures, beards and shaving. 

Es Mode:  What are the haircut trends for Fall and Winter?

M.S. - Blind Barber: This Fall's haircut trends are longer styles with texture and movement. Even the short faded sides become a little bit longer ( i.e. skin fades may become a tight fade with a darker gradient). 

Es Mode: How should shaved heads be managed?

M.S. - Blind Barber:  Managing a shaved head requires a consistent level of maintenance, it can be done daily or every week depending on the individual's hair growth.    

Es Mode: What are the most attractive haircuts for balding guys?

M.S. - Blind Barber: The most attractive haircuts for balding guys are very close cuts with plenty of texture, or a "buzz cut". Growing the hair longer to conceal the hair makes the balding more obvious, while a shorter style while actually blend the balding. 

Es Mode: Which products do you recommend for the hair and beard?

M.S. - Blind Barber: Blind Barber hair products are clutch for various styles. For longer styles, I recommend the Styling Cream and the Sea Salt Spray for movement, flexibility and freedom. The pomades each have different finishes from Matte (90 Proof), High Shine (101 Proof) and in between (60 Proof). I find that the 90 Proof is great for structured haircuts like pompadours, 101 Proof for a sleek, classic side part and 60 Proof Pomade for separation and texture. 

Shaved Head - Shave the head either in the shower or straight out of the shower for best results using Blind Barber Shaving Cream, a Gillette Mach 5 razor or safety razor. Follow up with a post shave treatment like Blind Barber Moisturizer to soothe and replenish the scalp.
